I bought this hood range. It arrived missing parts. It's beem over 2 weeks and I still don't have the parts. I have spoken to 4 supervisors and I can tell you that the company doesn't care if you are happy once you have bought their products. They will not provide any reasonable customer service and only keep apologizing. The next time you call they start all over again apologizing but still nothing happens. I've purchased over $20,000 in Kitchenaid appliances and if they were not already installed I would return every one of them because when something goes wrong in the future, I expect the customer service to be as inept as it was in the past. Don't waste your time and money on this company. If I could give a negative star rating I would, but the lowest is 1.

Used just a year, everything is great until, just like everyone else, the switch broken at the plastic part. Kichenaid, come on, so many complains about the part, should you do something to improve?

Great looking hood that besides the switch bezel with a poor design works well. Once the screws break the plastic it screws into you cannot apply pressure to the switch to operate it. It appears numerous persons have had the same problem and repeatedly buying $70 part for an expensive piece of equipment is certainly a turn off.

Bought this hood, works great but having the same issue as mentioned below the housing unit where the contro panel is cracked and is now loose, and the repair is over $200 for parts, labor, and materials

Great Hood, Switch Problems

I've had mine over six years and agree with the other reviews. Great hood, but the switch assembly is a problem. I solved mine: a ~5" piece of 2x4 wedged on the inside above the switch assembly to the top of the hood.
No argument that you shouldn't have to do that with a $2K hood, OTOH, it's worked for me for 4+ years. I didn't even use the screws to avoid stressing the plastic. A 15 minute fix.

Had this vent for 1.5 years and replaced the switch bezel twice. At 60$ for each bezel, this is a manafacturing defect. The first bezel broke on the side screw attachments the second broke on the top (see photos). The vent works well and is very quiet on the low setting. But replacing this part every 8 months will be very expensive.

Kitchen Aid Fix for broken Switch

Hello frustrated fellow Kitchen aid reviewers. I like you was faced with the exact issue of the broken switch. I was also shipped a replacement switch. Nothing wrong with the switch itself. The switch actually breaks when we use it and push on the buttons. This force is what is breaking the screw as it has no support for the force being exerted on it. I realized this was a flaw from the get go. Kitchen aid folks realize I am an accountant by profession and once I realized the reason for the failure all I did was cut a block of wood and I wedged it on top of the switch that sits between the switch and the roof of the canopy.
This has solved my problem for ever. I still have the replacement part that I have yet to use and I can exert any pressure without fear.
Please others reading this do the same if not email me I can help you on how to solve for this misery. Other than than I really think the product is great.

Control panel broke again

Love this hood but this is the second time I'm having to replace the control panel. As others have stated, the switch is held in place by two screws; two screws that are screwed directly into a plastic housing. We didn't have any issues during the first year or two before it finally failed. After paying $70+ for a replacement part (really overpriced IMO) it failed again after three weeks of use. We've had this fail in two different areas.
Over 1/2 the reviews here point to the same issue; clearly it's a design defect and to date nothing has been done to resolve it. If anyone has the same issue please call Whirlpool and file a complaint @ 1-866-698-2538. Part number is WPW10370649
If enough of us complain about the issue they will investigate the issue.

I opted to buy this range hood when I bought my new home 11 months ago. The switch is made of plastic and broke off 2 months ago. I'm trying to schedule a warranty repair, but was unsuccessful in reaching someone. I'll try again tomorrow.
Several reviewers have mentioned that this happened to them as well. Performance wise, it's a nice range hood. I would not recommend buying this product as the plastic switch is sure to break again due to normal wear and tear of turning on/off. I recommend Kitchenaid to fix this manufacturing weakness as it will only lead to unsatisfied customer experience and issue a repair recall.

I echo the frustration from the other reviews that such an expensive unit made the housing control part out of plastic. This part has broken twice in 2 years. I'm replacing it again.

This hood is installed in our 3 year old home. The fan control switch housing is poorly designed cheap plastic, and very expensive to replace. Has broken twice already in the course of normal use. Trying to reinforce the part myself now as replacing it again is just throwing money away. The internal blower (sold seperately for an additional $500) just quit on ours too - the second in our neighborhood to fail in 3 years or less.

I'm had this hood installed in my new home. After 15 months the switch (control Panel) fell apart. I ordered a new one from Kitchenaid Parts online and installed it in Nov of 2016. After 6 months the part failed again. I submitted an online contact to KA and someone called my wife back offering apologies, telling her to go to the company we bought the part from to check the warranty. Part was item #: 1878923 Description: Control Panel Price: $60.99 and was purchases for KA parts! Unbelievable

We purchased this hood 9 months ago as part of a full kitchen renovation. While the exhaust performs extremely well and has a great appearance, my frustration with this equipment relates to a cheap piece of plastic which holds the control panel. It has now just broken for the 3rd time - and in the process of being replaced again! The appliance repair company is in the process of determining if this is a common problem - oh, yah, half of the reviews for this unit complain of this very issue - going back 3 years. Come on kitchenaid, either correct the design flaw (cheap plastic) or stop manufacturing the product. Dear Kitchenaid, are you willing to fix my unit forever free of charge or can you come up with a viable fix? If not for this frustrating issue, I would probably rate my $18,000 kitchen package 5 stars - but a 50 cent piece of plastic junk is leaving me frustrated with this purchase. I would love to hear back from Kitchenaid with a solution.

I would recommend this product to a friend with caution. It is aesthetically pleasing and effective (esp. with the 1200CFM blower) but like many others our control panel broke within the first 30 days of use. Overall I am happy with our purchase because it looks good and functions very well, (I would say like a commercial quality range hood). More on the bad: All of the controls still function but the plastic and two screws that held the control panel in place are broken. Definitely poor design/quality on the control panel. Quite a shame for an otherwise very good product that is $2500+ with the blower.

1.5 years & range hood control has broken

We have a new home & the vent hood was the last thing to be installed. After 1.5 years, the range hood controls has broken from the inside where the screws do not stay screwed in. It seems to be made of cheap plastic. It is the one part I questioned after installation. Everything else is made of stainless steel.

Started rusting after 2 weeks.

We bought this for our home a few weeks ago and after only 2 weeks, the entire thing is rusting. The vent cover is fine but the actual hood has rusted top to bottom. It hasn't been exposed to any water and our home is brand new. Has anyone else had this happen to them. Also, Can someone contact me about the issue from Kitchenaid?

My control panel where the on off switch is keeps on breaking bc it is made of plastic. It becomes separated from the unit. It was repaired 3 times, after which I asked for a real remedy. Whirlpool said they could only replace it with a new one. I got the new one installed, same model, but within 2 months the control panel again broke and separated from the main unit! There is a major design flaw! Heat from range makes plastic break easily, and the plastic is what is holding the control panel in place! Kitchen aid needs to redesign this and come up with a permanent stronger steel fix for this unit.
